Professional Bio

As SVP of Development at Special Olympics, Inc. (SOI), Shira Mitchell provides strategic direction and coordination for direct response, canvassing, planned and major giving, and corporate partnership fundraising initiatives. Shira is focused on growing revenue from integrated fundraising efforts by building strategic partnerships, cultivating donors and expanding markets. Prior to SOI, she worked for the US Holocaust Memorial Museum where she was responsible for acquiring, stewarding, and soliciting donors through direct response marketing channels. In 2018, Shira received the ANA Nonprofit Federation Rising Leader Award, recognizing achievement, innovation, and leadership in the fundraising community. Shira resides in northern Virginia with her husband and two children.
