For nearly 150 years, our innovative, science-based leadership programs have been First to Serve in promoting and nurturing the bonds between animals and people. American Humane sets the gold standard as the most visionary and effective animal welfare organization in the nation. Our programs include:

RESCUE

• Deploying to the site of natural disasters or animal cruelty cases to rescue, shelter, feed and provide veterinary care to animals.
• Clinics to bring veterinary care, vaccines, and support to areas in need
• Training for community volunteers, who can mobilize in support of rescue missions
• Grants to ensure animals housed in shelters can receive critical medical care.

MILITARY

• Training and pairing lifesaving service dogs with veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury.
• Reuniting retired Military Working Dogs with their former handlers after a lifetime of service to our country.

CERTIFICATIONS

• No Animals Were Harmed” Certification: Ensures the safety of animals while working on film and TV production sets
• Humane Conservation: Ensures the welfare of animals in zoos and aquariums across the globe
• Pet Provider: Assesses the well-being of animals at pet provider locations
• Farm Animal Program: Improves and verifies the humane treatment of farm animals
• Humane Tourism: Assesses wildlife reserves, lodges, and tour operators for their humane responsibilities

HERO DOG AWARDS

• Known as the “Oscars for Canines,” this nationwide search recognizes ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things.
• The competition culminates in a spectacular gala, hosted by Christie Brinkley and Carson Kressley, where one dog is crowned the American Humane Hero Dog.

SANCTUARY

• American Humane’s latest endeavor for the protection of animals sits on 15 serene acres in Palm City, FL.
• Features horse stables, climate-controlled dog kennels, and rescue vehicles ready for emergency deployment.
• New home to iconic programs, including:
