Position Summary: Responsible for leading communications, marketing and outreach functions (e.g. Advertising, Social Media, Community Outreach, Local Events, Community Partnerships, Influencer Relationships, etc.) for Best Friends Animal Society with a focus on Best Friends' work in the Pacific region.
This is a key leadership role for our work in California and our Los Angeles program, taking part in strategy and decision making both regionally and locally. Establishes and guides our public voice and calls to action to mobilize people to join our movement and save lives, in new and existing markets, working with network partners and senior leadership as we expand marketing support to the entire Pacific Region.
Accountable for driving traffic to Los Angeles adoption centers and events, getting people to take action such as adopting, volunteering or donating, and increase brand recognition to help drive Best Friends closer towards our goal to make the country no-kill by 2025. Includes direct management of marketingÂ and local events staff, agency relationships, and acting as Marketing liaison between Best Friends' Development and Communications Division and Pacific staff.
Deliver against marketing and outreach -related strategies developed by the organizational Development and Communications Division, by developing goals, forecasts, metrics and plans
Work with LA City and Pacific Region Executive Director to deliver against business plan and goals for the local program including but not limited to: adoption and spay/neuter goals, event attendance, brand awareness and engagement
Develop and manage annual marketing budget and strategic plan to reach adoption, event and membership goals
Implement Marketing and Communications-related programs and activities to increase awareness and ensure the advancement of Best Friends' mission and growth goals in the Pacific region
Working with the LA communications team, manage pre-production and on-air tasks and responsibilities for LA appearances on Animal Planet's Give a Dog a Home Live!
Using focused research and analytics, provide consultation on establishing market segments to best capitalize on local market opportunities
Network and foster local relationships and partnerships with all professional agencies, media outlets, local businesses, key community events, local and social media influencers
Establish and cultivate outreach opportunities to strengthen BF brand in the community, including grassroots promotions and influencer-focused marketing programs that help to expand the reach of Best Friends work and brand
Collaborative planning, development, execution, and reporting of regional digital campaigns, including online advertising, social engagement, and web/mobile.
Partner with digital team as needed to enhance local digital assets including mobile first experiences.
Ensure that all promotions and activities adhere to the established Best Friends brand strategy, voice and guidelines
Coordinate and communicate Communications and Event plans with relevant co-workers and involved parties
Participate in organizational Division meetings to ensure a line of communication and a sense of collaboration
Supervise marketing and local events personnel, including work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field. MBA with concentration in Marketing/Communications is desired
Minimum 6 years of marketing experience with proven ability to create, document and execute marketing plans
Marketing agency experience a plus
A solid understanding of social media marketing and other digital advertising channels and processes
Experience wrangling digital assets and leading QA with a can-do attitude across local multi-channel marketing campaigns.
Significant knowledge and experience living or working in Los Angeles preferred
Strong interpersonal skills. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people
Strong analytical skills and ability to establish business and financial justifications for Communications initiatives
Experience managing and developing staff required
Professionally advocate Best Friends' positions on issues
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
Proven project management, financial planning and forecasting experience with track record in attaining stated goals
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills. Attention to detail
Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
Valid Driver's License with access to transportation to travel on organization business
Ability to participate in events including nights and weekends and assist in the set-up and breakdown of events
Extended work at a computer with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion
Periodic trips to various out-of-state locations such as Kanab, Utah which may require use of public transportation
