The Influencer Relations Specialist is a key contributor to the Best Friends mission by expanding our audience reach within key influencer communities and micro-influencer engagement. The Influencer Relations Specialist is a creative and energetic member of the dedicated social team focused on the content creation, engagement and management of Best Friends' online communities (over two million animal lovers and rapidly growing). Bringing both social media and relationship-building skillsets, this person will focus on the growth, engagement and cultivation of influencer relationships in support of organizational goals by providing targeted and meaningful online actions that lead to real world change for animals across the country.

  • Engages with members and potential supporters in positive, thoughtful online conversations about the organization, our campaigns, web stories, events and videos
  • Leads prospecting efforts for new influencer relationships, collaborating with internal teams and outside agencies
  • Collaborates with marketing, PR, social, development, grassroots and lifesaving programs to prospect new influencer supporters, defining meaningful goals and actions to provide to them in support of the organization's mission.
  • Stays abreast of current trends in social media, to assure that Best Friends stays on the cutting edge of social strategy.
  • Leads development of storytelling and social content creation for influencers and micro-influencers, and coordinates with the Manager, Social Communities and Content to promote influencer content on Best Friends' National social channels
  • Integrates with content calendars specific to influencer marketing, aligning with existing campaigns to drive more impact, including holidays, Best Friends Day, and adoption events
  • Collaborates and works with the celebrity relations team to handle digital stewardship or recognition as needed
  • Creates and schedules content as needed in social media management tools, supplying reporting and metrics as needed.
  • Works with teams across the organization to foster a collaborative culture and an integrated, cohesive strategy that represents the organization's breadth of work.
  • Communicate using the Best Friends voice and all established guidelines around social media policies and brand guidelines.


Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
  • The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, creative, resourceful, professional, upbeat, energetic, collaborative (thrives in a distributed team structure), flexible, and able to take both initiative and direction.
  • Experience working with or managing influencers, or experience as an influencer strongly preferred
  • Past experience (in either a volunteer or staff capacity) with animal welfare organizations
  • Demonstrated experience in digital platforms, content development, PR, social media, editorial and consumer marketing.
  • Creative thinker who can brainstorm innovative ideas/strategies to support brand initiatives with focus on editorial storytelling, influencers and consumer engagement.
  • Skilled team player with the ability to build, foster and nurture supportive and collaborative relationships with a range of colleagues including leaders.
  • An 'early adopter' of digital trends with a passion for digital projects.
  • Active within social media and digital platforms.
  • Can-do positive attitude and a roll-up-your-sleeves approach; personable and flexible with demands and changes in business.
  • Highly-organized and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker willing to push the envelope and bring fresh, innovative ideas to life.
  • Experience with social management platforms (Sprout Social, Later, etc.), basic HTML, and social media apps preferred.
  • Must have proficiency with a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, research, and presentation software (Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging media, and proficiency within social media networks a must. May include, but not limited to:

    • Mobile apps and platforms

Physical Requirements:

  • Working at a computer for extended periods of time, including repetitive typing, arm and hand motion
  • Some travel required
