The Specialist, Global Youth & Education Programming: Spread the Word, is responsible for the development, oversight and integration of Spread the Word: Inclusion campaign activation, engagement, resources and activities into an executable strategy. In particular, the position will work with Program, Region and Global Special Olympics staff to maximize impact and reach of Spread the Word for program development, marketing and partner development.

  • Ensure STW-Inclusion, one of the primary SO student engagement strategies for youth is leveraged to support the quality, outreach and sustainability goals of Unified Schools
  • Develop and execute annual Resource-Development / Marketing / Communication plan for Spread the Word to maximally amplify impact of Special Olympics Global Youth Engagement
  • Oversee and drive content creation for STW throughout the year; leverage STW messaging and content to highlight existing Special Olympics initiatives, including Unified Schools, Youth Leadership, etc.
  • Collaborate with Best Buddies on the planning, strategy and implementation of the STW campaign
  • Collaborate with Regional Communications and Youth Engagement staff to identify and execute Communications / Branding opportunities and resource needs
  • Manage day to day coordination of the strategic evolution, and implementation of communications goals to promote the STW campaign across North America, specifically in Unified Champion Schools in the US and as part of a global communications and engagement strategy; participate in cross-functional and multi partner STW working group
  • Identify strategic partnerships with relevant organizations, and manage and maintain current STW partnerships such as the Trevor Project, The Mighty, etc.
  • Manage annual STW budget and ensure that programming stays within budget
  • Ensure all existing Spread the Word resources and merchandise are updated and manage the process for ensuring they are ready for positing on website, with appropriate tags, intros and linkages.
  • Implement the Spread the Word social media calendar in alignment with the overall Spread the Word content plan and monitor relevant engagement analytics with our social media team
  • Support the creation of resources and other training materials specific to storytelling and external engagement for our youth leaders
  • Collaborate with a multi-partner working group on ensuring the promotion of stories on a digital platform
  • Manage vendor relationships for engagement materials development in the area of graphic design, video production, print production, web and social media.
  • As needed, supervise staff, interns and other rotational positions focusing on Global Youth Engagement
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing or related field
  • Strong organization skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Self-motivation with ability to work well independently
  • Strong personal time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work as a team player and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong writing and copy editing skills
  • Excellent computer and remote collaboration skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams)
  • Proficiency in using Canva or other graphic design platforms
  • Experience with or knowledge of the STW campaign as youth leader or other volunteer/management role
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Demonstrated global awareness and ability to work cross-culturally

Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with managing large projects
  • Proficiency in Adobe programs
  • Graphic design and/or video editing experience
  • Experience working internationally or collaborating cross-culturally, especially in a disability-related field
  • Experience with Smartsheets
