Partnership:

EA Sports and UEFA

Description:
EA Sports partnered with UEFA to create the eChampions League. A UEFA Champions League-branded FIFA esports tournament took place in 2019, with finals held in Madrid, a day before the Champions League final. The FIFA 19 eChampions League featured a prize pool of $280K, with $100K for the winner. EA Sports secured the licensing rights for the Champions League after UEFA ended its Pro Evolution Soccer partnership with Konami. The tournament was exclusive to PlayStation 4 players and featured a prize pool of $280K. The eChampions League competition was also an official qualifier event for the EA Sports FIFA 19 Global Series. A series of online qualifiers and a knockout tournament decided the eight finalists, who then traveled to Madrid to compete on May 31, a day before the Champions League final took place in the same city. In a twist to the usual FIFA tournament rules, the finalists had to create Ultimate Team squads, using a certain number of real-life soccer players who played in the Champions League Group Stages in 2018.
