NBC Universal and Ford Motor Company teamed up to promote KNIGHT RIDER with the Mustang Stories Contest. Contestants entered online at by submitting a photo of a moment in their Mustang and an essay of 250 words or less describing that moment in their Mustang. Judges selected the top twenty-five stories based on creativity and adherence to the theme. The top twenty-five videos were uploaded to the contest site and the general public was able to vote for their favorite. Voters could vote a maximum once per day. The video with the most votes at the end of the promotional period received a 2010 Ford Mustang, a four-night trip for two to Los Angeles for the reveal of the 2010 Mustang at the L.A. Auto Show and $16,714 that the winner could use towards taxes. The contest began on August 27, 2008 and ended October 28, 2008. Promotional elements include KITT, a 2009 Mustang and the automotive star of KNIGHT RIDER.
