Discovery Communications and Long John Silve? s teamed up to promote SHARK WEEK with online advertising, an online game and a sweepstakes. Long John Silve? s bought advertising space on Discovery.com, Discover? s Shark Week micro site and shark-related content on Discover? s HowStuffWorks.com. Long John Silve? s also sponsored Sharkrunners, an online game that lets users virtually track and observe sharks in their natural habitat. Long John Silve? s hosted the Discover Baja Sweepstakes. Consumers could enter on Discovery.com or the Shark Week micro site. One Grand Prize winner received a four-night trip for four to Los Cabos, Mexico that included private scuba diving lessons, a deep sea fishing trip, a whale watching excursion and a round of golf. The sweepstakes ran from July 15 through August 31, 2009.
