STAR TREK and Verizon Wireless


Paramount Pictures teamed up with Nokia and Verizon to promote STAR TREK with a sweepstakes and a micro site. Contestants could enter the sweepstakes by text message or online at Contestants entered by choosing a number between 1 and 999,999. Contestants then text messaged the word KIRK followed by their numeral pick to 41414. The contestant who picked the lowest unique number won a Grand Prize of a 3-day Space Training Program at Incredible Adventures in Los Angeles. The winner was also eligible for a supplemental prize of $150,000 to be used for a suborbital trip to space. The winner had to choose a number between 1 and 50. If the number the winner picked was the number associated with the prize, the winner received the prize. The promotion was supported by the micro site at that hosted exclusive content such as trailers, clips, actor interviews, and downloadable applications for mobile devices. Visitors to could enter the "interactive video display center" to build the augmented-reality experience. It involved printing out a PDF document reading "incoming message from Starfleet Academy." Then, using his or her computer's Webcam, the site showed the viewer holding the sheet and the trailer plays on top of it and moves along with it. The campaign was supported by national television commercials. The promotion ran from April 19 through May 31, 2009.
