Sony Pictures Entertainment partnered with Macy`s to promote their summer flick, THE SMURFS 2. Throughout the month of June in select locations, Macy`s held an event called, MACY`S GREAT AMERICAN DRIVE-IN. Starting at 8:30pm, patrons could enjoy free carnival games, In-N-Out burgers, carhops, music, and arts and crafts. In addition to the family fun, The Smurfs was shown and a sneak peek of THE SMURFS 2. The first 100 cars to arrive at this event was given a swag bag full of treats and a $10 Macy`s gift card. Prior to the event, if a customer shopped at Macy`s kids` department and purchased $40 and more, the customer received a Macy`s Drive-In lawn chair souvenir to watch The Smurfs. THE SMURFS 2 was released in theaters on July 31st, 2013.
