Partnership:

National Geographic and YouTube

Description:
National Geographic teamed up with YouTube on a long-term, virtual-reality video partnership. The partnership created three VR series that take audiences on immersive expeditions to the far reaches of the world. The partnership kicked off with “The Okavango Experience,” a four-part series on one of the last wild places on earth, the Okavango Delta. Successive episodes of the series were released weekly on Tuesdays. Each episode ran about five minutes long. The content was created to be watched with VR headsets, but could also be viewed on desktop and mobile. In the series, viewers followed a National Geographic Society expedition to the largest wetland in Southern Africa, coming face-to-face with a lion, exploring the world’s largest remaining elephant population and learning the importance of protecting the rivers in the region. YouTube also provided production, technical and moral support on this project.
